my username:  it has no personality.  i was young and unoriginal at the time

drugs:  thank you, ambien cr.  so this is how normal people feel like when waking up?  normally, i drag my feet out of bed, microsleep on the drive to work, and remain a zombie throughout the work day (sometimes steal a nap during lunch).  it doesn't fix everything but it sure helps people like me.

  • SoCal Trip

pics galore from my recent southern california roadtrip to see my sis.

there a few things about southern california that i love:

    1) the weather.
it was -15 degrees in chicago when i  left.
orange county was 85 degrees when i got there.  they consider 60 degrees cold

    2) the asian food.
chinese, korean, thai, japanese.  there are whole towns with nothing but asian stores and tasty restaurants.  in my 3 trips there, i've had only one "ok" bowl of ramen.  everything else i ate was great

    3) the asians.
so many.  and that is a good thing.  i'd rather have too many (which some people complain about ) than too few.  at least you can hide whenever you want to get away.  and more asian girls = more possibilities

    4) everything is within 2 hours.
vegas, snowboarding, the beach, san diego, mexico

but chicago is still home.  all my friends are here.  i can't underestimate how important that is to my sanity.
    now onto the pics:

a bunch of animal pics comin up

meet Jersey, the boston terrier.  i think i've slowly become a dog lover.  i had tons of fun with her.

@ mount baldy.  i tried taking a bunch of artsy amateur photographer shots with my canon.  i admire how some people know how to frame a picture and take an image that evokes emotion.

this trail in the background looks fierce.  i didn't try the black as the blue was enough for me today.

new friend danny.  he's a ton of fun to be around.

my sister's roommate brook.  she was another nice and really cool person as well

    it really is beautiful here.

sweet home chicago.  gimme a shovel.

  • Andy McKee

Guess who I saw last weekend? :)
(check the vid from my last post)

jaws dropped and panties flew as andy dazzled us with his virtuosity.  before each song, he gave us a little nugget of what he was thinking when he wrote each song.  one of the more interesting was the meaning behind "gates of gnomeria."

since andy is a big gamer and a fan of the fantasy dungeons and dragons, everquest, world of warcraft, and lord of the rings genre, he wrote the intro to "gates" while imagining a group of elves, dwarfs, and humans traversing the dangerous orc filled mines of an ancient city.  at last, they reach their final destination, gnome city!  listen to the song and it will all make sense :)

after the gig, i waited patiently for my chance to meet Andy.  he was such a down to earth, laid back guy.  he even played a song named "all laid back and stuff".

he spoke to everyone who waited.  i hope some of his talent rubbed off onto my hands.
